R.I.P MF Doom: An Addendum To The Requiem

My first blog of January was called the Requiem. I wrote it as a memoriam, because so many people transitioned last year. As a lover of pop culture and history, 2020 was tough. a piece of my childhood was buried. Individuals that my Grandma introduced me to From Alex Trebek to Kenny Rogers to Curly from the Harlem Globe Trotters passed away. it seemed like every other day cultural idols were leaving Earth.

What I did not know at the time I published my last blog is, one of favorite artist Passed Away Last year. This man was a musical lyricist and a poetic genius. I quote his songs so much, I am sure I sometimes annoy my spouse. My shock over his passing and the fact that today is his birthday is the reason I had to write a Requiem Addendum.

According to several sources, Daniel Dumile, best known by his stage name MF Doom died on October 31, 2020. Which as a fan of the mask wearing genius, I find that to be a sad irony. Like many, i did not find out about his death until three months after his passing. His music was part of the soundtrack that helped me overcome a low vibrational period in my life. That is probably why he is one of my favorite artist.

Its strange how listening to an artist’s music for hours, going to their concerts, and watching their interviews make you feel like you know them, when technically you don’t. The interesting thing about relationships are, whether they are in person or not, you spend enough time invested in someone you feel close to them. for the longest time I was a fan of MF Doom and did not know what he looked like. He wore his mask all the time. Is it me or did you just see how easy it is to become catfished?

MF Doom was such a lyricist, I did not care what was behind the mask.

To those of you who clicked on my last post thinking it was about the video game Requiem: Avenging Angel, sorry for your disappointment. I titled it based off the literal definition of the word, which means- an act or token of remembrance. Because MF Doom will Forever be remembered.

Looking out at the world today, it seems like we are continuing to see more disasters. Here Lately I keep hearing the first line from MF Doom’s song, “Accordion” " living on borrowed time the clock ticks faster". Happy Birthday and R.I.P. to the The lyrical master.
