The Requiem: Welcome to January. Last Year Was Scary.
To anyone who is reading this, Congratulations! You made it through one of the most unpredictable years ever seen by modern man. If I had to describe last year in three words, they would be solemn, energetic, and transformative. 2020 was surreal and unreal. It almost felt like the Marvel movies, Infinity Wars and End Game mixed together. January began with the shocking passing of Kobe Bryant, his daughter, and the passengers on his helicopter. Next, COVID-19 shutdown the world. Then, there were riots and protest everywhere. Finally, we saw the actually toll Corona Virus took on the world. Last year, it almost felt like Thanos still had the Infinity Stones.
For those who have not seen the previously mentioned movies, a synopsis of the films are as follows. The Avengers attempt to prevent Thanos, from collecting six powerful “Infinity Stones” as part of his quest to kill half of all life in the universe. Thanos believes destroying half the population will allow the half that remains, to live in harmony with their environment. See, Thanos is from a planet that died because of a cataclysmic shift brought on by overpopulation and low resources. It was his belief that it is better to lose half the sentients than whole planets.
The media reported that reduced human activity due to COVID-19 allowed the Earth time to heal. The air to became cleaner, animals roamed freer, and water reserves became clearer. This was all because of suspended, normal daily activities. It forced many into new realities and redefine their truths. It should be noted that not only comic book villains believe in population control as a way of improving the planet, but that is a whole other blog.
Didn’t last year feel like something snapped? Leaders and entities of allegedly higher authority were exposed as depraved and debased. Government agencies and citizens violently clashed. And on top of all that, we were introduced to a deadly virus that many are debating the severity of. No matter what side of the debate you fall on, the amount of people we lost last year alone, made the Marvel movies feel prophetic.
All great historical figures, real or fictional had tools to assistant them. Moses had his staff, Noah had the arc, and Thor had his hammer. That is why the real star of the Marvel Universe is the Infinity Stones. The Infinity Stones are really powerful gems individually, but when united, they can be used to alter the reality of people, planets, and solar systems. If you are an extreme Marvel nerd like me, then you know that have been represented in all 21 Marvel movies.
There are six Infinity Stones: The Space Stone (blue), the Reality Stone (red), the Power Stone (purple), the Mind Stone (yellow), the Time Stone (green) and the Soul Stone (orange). The Space Stone gives the user power over space, anyone holding it can create a portal from one part of the universe to another. The Mind Stone allows the user to control the minds of others. The Reality Stone grants the user power to manipulate matter. The Power Stone bestows upon its holder the energy to destroy an entire planet. The Soul Stone, in the comics, allows the holder to capture and control others’ souls.
For all my metaphysical readers, the Infinity Stones remind me of the chakras. Many believe that aligned chakras are the necessary for a well-balanced human. Thanos believed the power of the stones were needed for a well-balanced universe. He believed in this truth so much, he sacrificed his beloved daughter for the Soul stone and altered the Universe. This is why 2020 reminded of the Infinity Wars and End Game. The world was reset, we lost heroes, family, friends, and way of lives. We are still trying to figure out what to do with all of this lost.
I believe that next year and the next decade is going to have people really pondering and focusing on their legacy and what that truly means to them. There are so many revelations coming forth, it is rendering some realities obsolete. The atmosphere in the world is causing things to quickly change. Just like in the Marvel Universe we are learning death is part of the process of life. We are also learning that after the gloom of lost fades away, the shine of good memories began to illuminate.
